What is RF skin tighening?

RF, or radio frequency skin tightening is an overarching term to describe the technology, where we use radio frequency energy, to gently heat up the tissue, promoting collagen contraction, therefore skin tightening. They are non invasive procedures, with very little down time.

Thermage 

Thermage FLX is one of the most famous and popular radio frequency based energy device, for non invasive skin tightening to achieve younger looking skin. It can be used for around the face, neck and eye areas. Thermage is ideal for individuals with active lifestyles who do not wish to experience the healing time after ablative procedures or surgery. Thermage treatment is known for its highly concentrated energy delivered to the skin, therefore it has the benefit of only needing one to two treatment sessions a year. 

Alma accent Prime

Accent Prime not only comes with radio frequency treatment hand piece, for the indicaton of skin tighening treatment, but also comes with ultrasound hand piece for the indication of fat reduction, it is great for reducing unwanted double chin fat,  these two technologies can be combined together in a single treatment.  A series of treatment 4-6 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results. 

Inmode Forma 

Forma treatment is extremely comfortable, like a wam hot stone massage. It is great for people who cannot tolerate painful treatments.  A series of treatment 4-6 weeks apart is recommended for optimal results. 

What to do before the treatment?

• Inform the doctor if you have a pacemaker or metal implants/pins. 

• You will be asked to remove any metal jewellery, therefore, it may be easier if you simply do not wear any that day. 

• Ensure you stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of water 

 • If you are concerned about discomfort during your treatment please feel free to take 1000mg of Panadol and or 400mg of Nurofen, 1 hour before your appointment. 

• If you are having your eyes treated please do not wear contact lenses. 

What do you expect during the treatment?

A treatment gel is applied to the treatment area, and heat sensation can be felt during the treatment. Depends on which RF skin tighening technology you select, the pain sensation may be slightly different.

For example, Thermage is a more intense and concentrated treatment, therefore you can expect to experience more pain and heat. 

With Accent Prime and Forma treatments, these are more gentle, therefore are less painful. However this is also why multiple sessions of treatments are needed. 

It takes about 60-90 minutes per session, depending on how many treatment reps you select (eg. 600 reps,or 900 reps.

What do you expect after the treatment?

The skin can feel a bit warm, and red, which settles very quickly over the next hour or two. There can be some mild swelling which also settles spontaneously. It shouldn’t affect the daily activities. You can apply skincare and makeup if needed after the treatment.

As always, strict sun protection is required post all energy based devices.
