Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) injection is a medical procedure that involves using a patient's own blood to create nutrient rich mixture to promote tissue healing and regeneration. PRF contains a rich concentrate of platelets and growth factors obtained from the patient's blood, suspended in a meshwork of fibrin, a naturally occuring protein in the blood. This is then injected or microneedled into patients scalp, to promote hair regrowth, scalp health, and hair health.

If you see the PRF tube in person, you will be amazed that it doesn't contain any additives compared to conventional PRP tubes.  This is important for many reasons, number one is that it means the PRF is entirely the patients own, with no artificial addictives. It also ensures that the fibrins are not broken down by the anti-coagulant present in the additive.

This meshwork of fibrin is not present in conventional PRP (Platelet rich plasma), however is crucial in the efficacy and longevity of PRF treatment. It holds the nutrients in, and create a slow release environment for the nutrients, allowing tOnhem to work gradually over time.

What does the pocedure involve?

1. Numbing cream/ pain relief: we prioritise our patients comfort, we always make sure we apply numbing cream or numbing injection before any PRF treatments

2. Blood extraction: Similar to other blood-based treatments like Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), the procedure begins with drawing a small amount of the patient's blood.

3. Centrifugation: The extracted blood is then processed using a centrifuge, which separates the components of the blood based on their densities. This process results in a concentration of platelets, growth factors, and white blood cells in the PRF.

4. Injection: The PRF is then injected into the targeted area to stimulate tissue regeneration and healing.

How many sessions do I need?

Hair regrowth is an ongoing treatment, as hair loss is an ongoing medical process. Therefore ongoing treatment and maintenance therapy is needed.

We recommend patients to come in monthly for their initial treatment, and when adequate results are obtained, we can drop the injection frequency to 2-3 monthly. In between, at home treatments will also be prescribed and need to be persistently taken to ensure adequate results.
