Which treatment do I need?
As we know, pigmentations are different and have different etiology and causes. Therefore a detailed consultation is needed to first diagnose the pigmentation, for example, if its melasma, or sun spots. The same person may also present wh a variety of pigmentations, ie, one can have melasma and freckles at the same time.
Depending on the pigmentation, treatment may vary, we will be able to go through the treatment plan with you at the consultation.
What do you expect during the treatment?
Generally, prior to most pigmentation removal, topical numbing cream will be applied for 20-30 minutes to ensure your comfort.
The treatment is quick, It takes about 20-30mins per session.
Repeat sessions may be needed depending on what the diagnosis of pigmentation is.
What do you expect after the treatment?
Depending on the treatment intensity, the recovery can be slightly different. If we are treating mild pigmentation, recovery can be quicker. The skin can feel a bit warm, and red, which settles very quickly over the next hour or two. Cooling face mask or cool air can be applied to accelerate the cooling process. All redness should settle over next 2-3 days depending on individual skin.
If we are treating deeper pigmentations, or performing ablative treatment, we can expect some superficial thin scabbing, which will naturally come off with no scarring, there might be down time from 5-10 days depending on individual skin healing time.
As always, strict sun protection is required post all laser and energy based devices.
Do I need multiple treatment?
Depending on the nature of the pigmentation, multiple treatment are needed. Pigmentation concerns are one of the most stubborn conditions to treat, no matter what the cause is.
Take melasma for example, it is a chronic condition that persists and fluctuates with many external and internal factors, including genetics, hormones, sun exposure, medications. Just like a chronic condition such as diabetes, we can have treatment to control and manage melasma, but currently there is no cure. Typically melasma needs multiple repeat treatment with laser, together with long term maintenance treatment.
On the other side, some small pigmented skin tags may only need single treatment with ablative devices. However, these little pigmented lesions to come back with time.
No matter what your pigmentation concern is, feel free to come in to the clinic for consultation, and we will make some recommendations on what treatment packages or promotions suit you the best.
Overall, buying treatments in packages can mean each individual treatments comes at lower price.
